Biology Technician/Biotechnology Laboratory Technician

A program that prepares individuals to apply scientific principles and technical skills in support of biologists and biotechnologists in research, industrial, and government settings. Includes instruction in fermentation technology, cell culturing, protein purification, biologic synthesis, assaying and testing, quality control, industrial microbiology, bioprocessing, chromatography and bioseparation, genetic technology, laboratory and hazardous materials safety, and computer applications.

CAD and Design

This dynamic program prepares students for entry level design and engineering technology positions where the CAD system is used to drive the concurrent design and manufacturing environment. The complete product lifecycle is addressed from concept to the end of the product's useful life. Students use devices such as rapid prototyping to develop digital design solutions. Emphasis is placed on both product and process (tool) design in the second year. Related electives explore the translation of the CAD model into the basis for manufacturing related design activities, known as CAM (computer aided manufacturing). Graduates often find employment engaged in design related activities, in areas such as aerospace, defense, automotive, and medical technology.

Chemical Technology

The Chemical Technology (CT) program is a laboratory-based program that prepares students for a career in chemical technology by developing the skills and knowledge necessary for a variety of technician jobs in different industries. Students learn important hands-on skills and as chemical technicians develop problem-solving and critical-thinking skills that can be used to solve problems encountered by chemical technicians in industry. Important qualifications for the chemical technician include a solid background in chemistry and math, the ability to use and troubleshoot a variety of instrumentation and standard equipment and know standard laboratory and safety procedures. Oral and written communication skills and use of computers are also important.

Civil Engineering Technology/Technician

A program that prepares individuals to apply basic engineering principles and technical skills in support of civil engineers engaged in designing and executing public works projects such as highways, dams, bridges, tunnels and other facilities. Includes instruction in site analysis, structural testing procedures, field and laboratory testing procedures, plan and specification preparation, test equipment operation and maintenance, and report preparation.

Computer Engineering Technologies/Technicians

A program that prepares individuals to apply basic engineering principles and technical skills in support of computer engineers engaged in designing and developing computer systems and installations. Includes instruction in computer electronics and programming, prototype development and testing, systems installation and testing, solid state and microminiature circuitry, peripheral equipment, and report preparation.

Construction Engineering Technology/Technician

A program that prepares individuals to apply basic engineering principles and technical skills in support of engineers, engineering contractors and other professionals engaged in the construction of buildings and related structures. Includes instruction in basic structural engineering principles and construction techniques, building site inspection, site supervision, construction personnel supervision, plan and specification interpretation, supply logistics and procurement, applicable building codes, and report preparation.

Drafting/Design Engineering Technologies/Technicians

A program that prepares individuals to generally apply technical skills to create working drawings and computer simulations for a variety of applications. Includes instruction in specification interpretation, dimensioning techniques, drafting calculations, material estimation, technical communications, computer applications, and interpersonal communications.

Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technologies/Technicians

A program that prepares individuals to apply basic engineering principles and technical skills in support of electrical, electronics and communication engineers. Includes instruction in electrical circuitry, prototype development and testing; systems analysis and testing, systems maintenance, instrument calibration, and report preparation.

Electrical/Electronics Maintenance and Repair Technology

A program that generally prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to operate, maintain, and repair electrical and electronic equipment. Includes instruction in electrical circuitry, simple gearing, linkages and lubrication of machines and appliances, and the use of testing equipment.

Electromechanical and Instrumentation and Maintenance Technologies/Technicians

A program that prepares individuals to apply basic engineering principles and technical skills in support of engineers engaged in developing biological or medical systems and products. Includes instruction in instrument calibration, design and installation testing, system safety and maintenance procedures, procurement and installation procedures, and report preparation.

Environmental Control Technologies/Technicians

A program that prepares individuals to apply basic engineering principles and technical skills in support of engineers and other professionals engaged in developing and using air conditioning, refrigeration, and heating systems. Includes instruction in principles of heating and cooling technology, design and operational testing, inspection and maintenance procedures, installation and operation procedures, and report preparation.

Environmental Technology

The program is designed to prepare the student for employment as a hazardous materials technician, safety technician, solid waste technician, recycling technician, or as a team member in environmental consulting firms. Skills and knowledge that you should possess as a result of completing the program include: understanding of the specific safety and environmental regulations related to work environment; familiarity with computers; basic understanding of chemical terminology; ability to read technical materials and translate what is read into action; ability to write comprehensible reports; ability to keep records; ability to make routine mathematical computations; understanding of how environmental regulations are formulated, and understanding of the interrelated nature of environmental problems.

Geography and Cartography

A program that focuses on the systematic study of the spatial distribution and interrelationships of people, natural resources, plant and animal life. Includes instruction in historical and political geography, cultural geography, economic and physical geography, regional science, cartographic methods, remote sensing, spatial analysis, and applications to areas such as land-use planning, development studies, and analyses of specific countries, regions, and resources. A program that focuses on the systematic study of map-making and the application of mathematical, computer, and other techniques to the science of mapping geographic information. Includes instruction in cartographic theory and map projections, computer-assisted cartography, map design and layout, photogrammetry, air photo interpretation, remote sensing, cartographic editing, and applications to specific industrial, commercial, research, and governmental mapping problems.

Heating, Air Conditioning, Ventilation and Refrigeration Maintenance Technology/Technician (HAC, HACR, HVAC, HVACR)

A program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to repair, install, service and maintain the operating condition of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. Includes instruction in diagnostic techniques, the use of testing equipment and the principles of mechanics, electricity, and electronics as they relate to the repair of heating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems.

Heavy/Industrial Equipment Maintenance Technologies

A program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills in the field maintenance and repair of heavy equipment, and in the general maintenance and overhaul of such equipment. Includes instruction in inspection, maintenance, and repair of tracks, wheels, brakes, operating controls, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, electrical circuitry, engines and in techniques of welding and brazing. A program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to repair and maintain industrial machinery and equipment such as cranes, pumps, engines and motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, production machinery, marine deck machinery, and steam propulsion, refinery, and pipeline-distribution systems.

Nuclear Medical Technology/Technologist

A program that prepares individuals, under the supervision of physicians, to employ radioactive and stable nuclides in diagnostic evaluations and therapeutic applications while monitoring for patient health and safety. Water Environment Technology

This program is designed to provide specialized training in the water and waste water fields. Both theory and application are stressed in the program, tailored for both entry-level persons and those already employment in the field. Earn an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Water Environment Technology; Take licensing exams through the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality in water and wastewater. completion of the Associate's Degree allows graduates the opportunity to write the entry level water and wastewater certification examinations; and enhance your career and job mobility.
